Meeting for the second time this season, KUA avenged for its early season defeat with an impressive 14-6 victory. Playing in front of many alumni, family, and friends, the Wildcats started strong and gained strength as the game progressed. Goalie Michael Maggiore, after what appeared a potentially game ending injury in warm-up, limped on to the field before the opening whistle and immediately came up big with 4 of his 9 saves on the day in the opening minutes. The KUA offense possessed the ball on the other end of the field and built a 2-0 lead off goals by Drew Simoneau (assisted by Ben Hayden) and Max Abendroth (assisted by CJ Frates). New Hampton got on the board late in the first quarter but KUA netted the first three in the second to build their lead to 5-1. Hayden scored the third goal off a feed from Dennis Kravchenko and Abendroth (assist to Chris Morse) and Simoneau each scored their second goals of the game during the run. New Hampton added their second goal of the game before Abendroth, off a feed from Josh Rombach, notched his third of the game. At the half KUA held a 6-2 lead.
The third quarter started off slowly, with both teams playing solid defense. Then, at 7:43, KUA stretched its lead when Simoneau scored his third on a solo effort. Sam Wyskiel followed with a rocket snipe off a feed from Morse to make it 8-2. New Hampton scored soon after, but KUA countered with three more quick goals of its own, the first off a Frates feed to Abendroth for his fourth goal, followed by solo efforts from Simoneau, his fourth of the game, and Morse. New Hampton scored the next two, though KUA’s Rombach netted his first to end the third quarter with KUA ahead 12-5. In the fourth, Abendroth fired his fifth and Morse his second to put the Wildcats in the lead 14-5. The game ended 14-6 in favor of the home team.
KUA’s long poles, Miles Hancock, Cullen Boyle, and Franklin Boswell-Taylor controlled the midfield while close D-men, Kevin Vieira, Tommy Harrison, and Ryan Cole were stellar against New Hampton’s high powered attack.
KUA (4-8) plays its last road game Wednesday when they face off against Tabor Academy at Andover.
