After fighting to take a one goal lead at the end of three quarters, KUA gave up four fourth quarter tallies to drop their 2010 season opener 8-6 to Pomfret. Both teams met at Cushing Academy in perfect early Spring 70 degree weather. Pomfret built an early 3-0 lead and led 4-2 at the half.  In the third quarter the momentum shifted as KUA defenders Spencer King (Manchester, NH), Cullen Boyle (Wilbraham, MA), and Tommy Harrison (Westford, MA) tightened their coverage and goalie Michael Maggiore (Medford, MA) made 5 solid saves to turn the tide (and 16 on the day).  The offense found their mark during the third quarter and KUA led at the end of three 5-4. The lead would shift two more times before Pomfret was able to net their seventh and eight goals with less than two minutes remaining.   Ben Hayden (Salem, MA) led the Wildcat scorers with three goals and two assists. Drew Simoneau (Manchester, NH) added a pair of goals and an assist, and CJ Frates (Woodstock, VT) scored a goal.

The game was a battle between two well matched teams. KUA’s defensive midfielders Franklin Boswell-Taylor (Oaks Bluffs, MA), Josh Huett (Plainfield, NH), Tim McNair (Wilmette, IL), and Kevin Vieira (Brooklyn, NY) played tough all afternoon and  veteran middies Sam Wyskiel (Dover, NH), Max Abendroth (Sunapee, NH)  and Joe Loftus (Loudonville, NY) were key in the transition game.

KUA travels to Deerfield on Wednesday.
