KUA Golf had their final event in the year as they played in the Lakes Region Championship at Newport Golf Club on Wednesday May 13th. The top 4 players from Holderness, Tilton, KUA, Vermont Academy, Proctor and New Hampton teed off at 1:30 for the 18 hole stroke play event. The winner is decided by the four cumulative scores of the each team.
#1 player Taylor Millward started with a crazy front nine that included some double bogeys and two birdies as shot 42. Eventually some unlucky bounces and bad lies gave him a round of 89, way above his nine hole average for the year which fell right at 39. Next, #2 Michael Novey played a solid round and if not for a triple bogey and a couple three putts could have been much lower as he posted an 81 to tie for 2nd low individual. #3 Zachary Musgrave had a tough time on the inconsistent Newport greens 3 putting 6 holes on his way to an 85. Finally, #4 Gab Veilieux shot 90 with a nine and three triple bogeys making him four over par for 14 holes including an eagle chance on the final hole where he hit a shot from 220 yards to around 15 feet. This brought the KUA total to 345 two shots worse then 2nd place finisher Tilton and nine shots worse then Lakes Region Champion, Holderness. Overall, this was culminating event in our first year in a rekindled program. It was an immense success and will only get better as we develop and attract a broad array of players. Congrats to all participants, you made KUA proud!
