VA Outscores KUA

The Vermont Academy Wildcats defeated the Kimball Union Wildcats by a score of 11-8 today.  Vermont capitalized in the fourth and sixth innings with big hits and taking advantage of a couple of KUA errors.  For three innings the game was contolled by each teams pitcher.  After three innings KUA was up 2-1.  In the bottom of the fourth VA scored four runs.  KUA responded in the top of the fifth retaking the lead 7-5.  The inning was highlighted by a Ryan Burgess two run home run.  The lead lasted no time at all as VA tied the score in their half of the inning.  In the sixth KUA committed a bases loaded error which allowed VA to score four runs in the inning.  In the top of the seventh KUA was able to get the tying run to the plate in the form of Andrew Weitzel.  Weitzel hit a high fly ball to left field but it came up five feet short of being a game tying homerun as it fell into the glove of the VA player.  This afternoon's game was back and forth but it was the Vermont defense that was the difference making several sterling plays in the field.
