The Lady Wildcats raced out to an 11-2 lead in the early goings of the NEPSAC Quarter-Finals against Hamden Hall with balanced scoring from Bianca Brenz, Greydy Diaz, Tori Agel and Shelby Pillsbury. Unfortunately for KUA, Hamden Hall stepped up their defensive efforts and got hot from 3-point land and went on a 12-2 run of their own. With 4:00 remaining in the first half, Hamden Hall, the #3 seed, had a one point advantage, 20-19. The game started to get out of reach for KUA (the 6th seed) in the second stanza as Hamden Hall's 6'2 Ellen Rich controlled the boards and hit some crucial turn-around jumpshots to bring the score to 46-34 with 6:26 remaining. KUA called a timeout to regroup and draw up a plan for one last comeback. Full court pressure forced Hamden Hall to turnover the ball and take rushed shots. Tori Agel grabbed 5 defensive rebounds down the stretch while junior Greydy Diaz took care of the scoring. Diaz scored 13 straight points, including 2 from beyond the arc to bring the Cats within 4 points, 47-51. Unfortunately time ran out for the Cats and Hamden Hall advanced to the semi-final round.
Gabby Diaz worked hard to get the ball to her hot-handed sister. Gabby finished the game with 9 assists to just 3 turnovers. She also led the team in steals with 4. Greydy finished with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Shelby Pillsbury (4 points), Tori Agel (4 assists, 6 points) and Bianca Brenz (12 points) each grabbed 8 boards in today's contest.
This game marked the final time wearing a KUA basketball uniform for senior Faith Smith. Smith has shown tremendous growth in her two years on the hilltop. She contributed 4 points and 3 rebounds in her second playoff game in as many years.
