Wildcats Lose on the Road to Govs

Eileen Williams
Bianca Brenz '11 tallied her first double-double of the year (11 points, 10 rebounds) but it wasn't enough as the Govs beat the Wildcats 54-49 in Byfield, MA.  The game was back and forth the entire first half but some mental breakdowns by the KUA squad allowed Governors to head in to the break with a 10 point cushion (31-21).  The Govs would start the second stanza on fire hitting back-to-back treys.  With 13:28 left in the game the score ballooned to 40-26 Governors.  At the 7:42 mark, KUA had cut the lead to 8 thanks to a 5 minute scoring drought for the hosts.  However, Govs freshman Cecilia Reyes showed her athleticism by grabbing key rebounds and putting the ball back in the hoop causing the lead to swell to 11 with 3:00 minutes remaining.  KUA applied full court pressure and caused several turnovers in a row leading to easy baskets.  The lead was eventually cut to 5 but that is as close as the Cats would get.

Ainsley MacDonald played terrific defense all afternoon on the Govs talented point guard and shooting guard.  Tori Agel strung together a well-rounded game contributing 13 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Greydy Diaz '10 finished with 12 points and 4 assists while sister Gabby chipped in with 6 points, 6 assists and 4 boards.

This game wrapped up the regular season for the Lady Wildcats who will now face #3 seed Hamden Hall in the New England Prep School Basketball Tournament in Greenfield, MA (neutral site).  Tip-off is 2:30 on Wednesday, March 4th.  This will be the 12th consecutive trip to the post-season for KUA.  Go Wildcats!
