Wildcats Fall Short at Deerfield

Eileen Williams

The Lady Wildcats traveled to Deerfield (MA) yesterday to take on a talented Class A squad.  Arrica West, Deerfield’s Yale-bound post-graduate, scorched the nets for 26 points en route to a 62-54 victory for the hosts. KUA trailed by 9 at the half but cut the deficit to 4 at the 8:35 mark of the second stanza.  With just over 2 minutes remaining, the Cats were still within 6 but some untimely turnovers forced Kimball Union to foul in order to regain possession of the ball.  KUA got to the foul line more times than Deerfield but only connected on 40% of the freebies (4-for-10).  Freshman Gabby Diaz played a complete game, netting 13 points while dishing out 5 assists and a season-high 6 boards.  Contributions from Tori Agel (13 pts., 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 assists), Greydy Diaz (10 pts., 4 rebounds, 2 steals) and Bianca Brenz (12 pts., 2 asists, 1 steal) helped keep the game close.  Faith Smith had another strong game hauling in 6 rebounds to go along with 2 points, 1 steal and a block.

KUA hosts Holderness tomorrow at 4p.m. in an important Class C and Lakes Region League match-up.  Come cheer us on in Alumni Gymnasium.  Go Wildcats!
