KUA's Defense Clamps Down on Ethel Walker

Eileen Williams
The Lady Wildcats held 5-1 Ethel Walker to just 26 points this afternoon in another Class C match-up in Meriden.  KUA combined for 40 rebounds and 15 steals as compared to just  21 rebounds for Walker's.  Bianca Brenz and Greydy Diaz did some great work on the glass grabbing 8 caroms each while Gabby Diaz and Tori Agel led the Wildcats with 5 steals apiece.

Senior Faith Smith was perfect from the floor and seemed to hit a shot just when the Cats needed it most.  Smith rebounded with strength and did a nice job keeping the ball high.  Four of her points were from offensive rebounds. She pulled down 5 boards in total.  Ainsley MacDonald played another solid game for Kimball Union grabbing 3 rebounds and nabbing 2 steals while playing aggressive defense.

The Wildcats ended the first half on a 9-0 run to head into the locker room with a 21-13 lead.

KUA received balanced scoring from Brenz (12), Agel (10), Greydy Diaz (8), Gabby Diaz and Smith (6 each) and Shelby Pillsbury with 4 (a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line). Jillian Fitzgerald had a picture perfect high-low assist to Tori Agel early in the second half to increase KUA's lead to 28-14.  The Wildcats have won 4 games in a row and look to keep the streak alive as they host Tilton School, yet another Class C opponent, on Wednesday.
