Defense and team play proved to be the difference maker the second time around against Vermont Academy. The Lady Wildcats from NH combined for 21 steals, 14 assists and 33 rebounds. Shelby Pillsbury had a breakout game scoring a KUA career high 11 points and grabbing 7 boards to go along with 5 steals on the day. Pillsbury got her hands on almost every loose ball and her teammates followed suit. Tori Agel led the team in steals with 6 while chipping in with a team-high 4 assists, 7 points and 7 rebounds. Greydy Diaz hauled in a team-high 8 rebounds to go along with 3 assists and 12 points. Bianca Brenz rounded out the scoring with 10 points, several on offensive putbacks by following her own shot, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. The entire team made a strong commitment to defense and their hard work paid off. Ainsley MacDonald and Jillian Fitzgerald were effective on the press defense and Faith Smith pulled down 3 defensive rebounds in a row (five total) and had perfect timing flashing to the ball in the post. Freshman point guard Gabby Diaz looked very comfortable handling the ball and added 5 steals on the defensive end. A terrific team victory as KUA improves to 4-5 and gains lots of confidence heading into the bulk of its season.
