The Wildcats came out sluggish in the championship game of the Pomfret School Holiday Tournament and the hosts took full advantage. Pomfret shot lights out from everywhere on the court and headed into the break with a 33-18 advantage (KUA's Bianca Brenz netted 11 of those 18 points). Unfortunately, the scoring drought continued for KUA until Ainsley MacDonald
knocked down a free throw several minutes into the second half. From that point on Captain Greydy Diaz put the team on her shoulders and began to chip away at the insurmountable lead. She scored 12 points in the final 10 minutes, grabbed a handful of rebounds and dished out a couple of assists all while playing stingy defense. KUA finished the game on a 16-0 run and played Pomfret evenly in the second stanza (23 points each). The team has learned some important lessons today: Play your hardest every minute of every game; Defense and rebounding wins championships, and never give up no matter how dire the situation seems. Thanks, Greydy, for leading by example today! Diaz finished the game with a team high 15 points, 7 rebounds (also a team high) and 2 assists. Freshman Gabby Diaz dished out 3 assists while grabbing 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
