Kimball Union lost to Lakes Region League rival Holderness on Saturday by a score of 54-40. The game was much closer than the score indicates as Holderness caught the hot hand and pulled away in the last 5 minutes of the contest. The Wildcats effectively attacked the hoop early on and had Holderness in foul trouble in the first half. KUA shot an improved 70% from the charity stripe for the game, but unfortunately only connected on 28% from the floor. Score at the half was 26-21 in Holderness' favor. The Cats pulled within one point in the second stanza after making some adjustments defensively which helped slow down Holderness' talented point guard and post player. Ebony Sellers, a PG from New Jersey netted 16 points, while senior Gedville Gineityte of Lithuania chipped in with a game high 19 for Holderness. Bianca Brenz and Tori Agel (7-for-10) led the way for the Cats with 13 apiece. Strong performances were also given by juniors Shelby Pillsbury and Ainsley MacDonald each pulling down rebounds and nabbing steals. KUA, still playing without leading scorer Greydy Diaz '10, who averaged 10.7 ppg last season, has given it their all throughout the season's first four contests and looks forward to Diaz's return next week.
