KUA Loses Home Opener to Proctor

Eileen Williams
The Lady Wildcats fell to the Proctor Hornets today by a score of 53-57.  The game was back and forth throughout the first half with no team leading by more than 3 points. Bianca Brenz and Gabby Diaz led the charge for KUA with 6 points apiece in the opening stanza while Shelby Pillsbury did some great work on the glass pulling down 6 of her team high 11 rebounds.  The Pasqual sisters were a tough duo to stop, however, as they combined to score 18 of Proctor's 26 points in the first half.

KUA started the second half a bit slowly as they only had 2 field goals 8 minutes into the second half.  The shots were there but they simply were not falling.  The Wildcats shot a discouraging 27% from the floor for the game.  The Cats got down by as many as 13 at one point, but battled back behind the hot hand of Gabby Diaz and Tori Agel going strong to the hoop.  Diaz scored 10 points in the final 3 minutes, including two 3's to cut the deficit to 4 with 7 seconds left on the clock.  An ensuing foul sent Proctor's Angelica Pasqual to the line and she connected on both shots to bring the score to 59-53 and end the game.

Freshman Gabby Diaz (Haverhill, MA) ended the game with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals while Tori Agel chipped in with 16 points and 10 boards for her first double-double of the season.  Sophomore Bianca Brenz finished with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists.

KUA falls to 1-1 on the young season while Proctor improves to 1-1.  Next up is the NMH Holiday Tournament on Friday and Saturday.  Go Wildcats!
