Kimball Union hosted league rival New Hampton School on a cold and sometimes snowy afternoon in Meriden. With Lakes Region League Championship implications on the line, the game lived up to its billing. New Hampton came out strongly and put Kimball Union on the back foot in the first fifteen minutes. Kimball Union settled down and the first half was a back and forth affair. New Hampton strikers Peterson and Barbosa were always a threat and Barbosa tallied twice; first on a penalty 18 minutes in and then in the 37th on a pass from Peterson. Kimball Union answered the first New Hampton goal in the 20th minute when Andrew Jacobson headed home a cross from Neil MacKenzie. The teams entered halftime with New Hampton ahead 2-1. In the second half, Kimball Union found their rhythm and pressured New Hampton for the full 45 minutes. New Hampton goalkeeper Matthew Fay made 6 second half saves including two spectacular ones, and New Hampton defenders saved two more that were headed for the back of the net. Kimball Union was unable to find the equalizer and lost their first game of 2008. Kimball Union travels to Andover, MA to face Phillips Academy on Saturday night at 6pm.
