Kimball Union 1-0 over Northfield Mount Hermon

Kimball Union hosted Class A rival NMH this afternoon on Pope Field and earned a hard fought 1-0 victory.    This was one of the best played matches for Kimball Union and the level of play and competitive spirit from both teams was outstanding.  The game was a battle in the midfield the entire match. NMH central midfielders Colin Murphy and Matt Houser matched up well against Elisha Kahan and Nathan McCann of Kimball Union.  None was willing to give an inch.  KUA centerback Nick Lincoln was fantastic and dominated in the air and controlled the back for Kimball Union.  Goalkeeper Nate Goss-Woliner cut balls out, handled all crosses and conceded very little space behind the back four to earn the shut out.  Ben Newton was also fantastic in the midfield for KUA working both ends of the field tirelessly.  Ike Okpoebo was constantly a threat up front for the Wildcats, but NMH centerbacks Kendall Davis and John Gallagher were equal to the task. Kimball Union’s goal came in the 10th minute when Elisha Kahan hit a full volley on cornerkick clearance from 30 yards.  It was a highlight reel goal. The Wildcats made the goal stand up to avenge last years’ defeat to the Hoggers.  Both teams will look forward to renewing the rivalry next fall!  Kimball Union faces Tilton Academy who are in second place in the Lakes Region League, for control of the Lakes Region League title race on Friday at 6:30pm at KUA.
