Lowenstein Solid Between the Pipes as Wildcats Run Over Suffield
Jonny Lowenstein (Hastings-On-Hudson, NY) was solid between the pipes this afternoon as the Wildcats registered their sixth win of the season with a 13 – 6 victory over the Suffield Academy Tigers. Tri-Captain Jeff Galvin (Meriden, NH) was held scoreless in the first but tallied once in the second, twice in the third and three times in the fourth as he led all scorers on the afternoon. The hardworking senior also had four assists and rode hard at every opportunity. Junior midfielder Evan Roberts (West Cornwall, VT) and Tri-Captain Donner Carr (East Greenwich, RI) had two each while midfielders Jeff Twichell (Exeter, NH), Chris McDonald (Niwot, CO) and Sean Lavin (North Easton, MA) each found Suffield twine once during the contest. Sophomore attack man Jamie Schmidt (Shelburne, VT) had one assist while freshman Justin Wright (Waccabuc, NY) assisted twice from the midfield. Carr, Lavin and Roberts also had assists as the Wildcats moved the ball early, shared it unselfishly and played some excellent team offense throughout the duration of the game. On the defensive end, the trio of Judson Pickard (Cincinnati, OH), Ben Severance (Rumson, NJ) and Trevor McGraw (Meriden, NH) were relentless as they forced Suffield turnovers and turned them into Wildcat transitional offense. Goalie Lowenstein had eight solid saves on the day and cleared the ball very effectively. Juniors Nate Plummer (Meriden, NH) and Sam Blackman (Kennebunk, ME) also contributed to the defensive effort from both the close defense and long stick middie positions. Freshman Vinnie Smith (Fresno, CA) also saw playing time during the second half as did midfielder Zach Dayno (East Thetford, VT). Sophomore Brent Bourgeois (New Haven, VT) continued to play solid defense with either a short or long stick while sophomore Andrew Richardson (Lancaster, MA) played at both close defense and the long stick midfield position. The face off ring was once again controlled by the Wildcats as Roberts, Carr, Matt Parker (Shelburne, VT) and David Frasz (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) combined for 15 wins while losing eight. Frasz struggled early but came on strong with five wins in six contests during the fourth period. The Wildcats play in their finale of the 2006 season at Endicott College in Beverly, MA on Wednesday as they engage the powerful Seawolves of Tabor Academy from Marion, MA. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 4:00pm.
