Playing home for only the second time this season, Kimball Union hosted Proctor Academy in a game where the Wildcats controlled the play on both ends of the field. The close defensive trio of Ben Severance (Rumford, NJ), Justin Pickard (Cincinnati, OH) and Trevor McGraw (Meriden, NH) set the tone as they clamped down early on Proctor, forcing turnovers that allowed the Wildcats an opportunity to run the field and play transition lacrosse. Senior attack man Sean Lavin (North Easton, MA) opened the scoring for KUA with an unassisted goal at the 11:47 mark of the first period. Solid work in the face off circle from tri-captain Donner Carr (East Greenwich, RI), David Frasz (Dover-Foxcroft, ME), Matt Parker (Shelburne, VT) and Evan Roberts (West Cornwall, VT) continued to secure the ball for the Wildcat offense. Three goals by Roberts and one by attack man Jamie Schmidt (Shelburne, VT) finished the first period, giving the Wildcats a commanding 5-0 lead after one. The second period saw more of the same as senior attack man and tri-capt. Jeff Galvin (Meriden, NH) twice found Proctor twine. Freshman attack man Cody Danforth (Milton, VT) buried a Roberts feed and returned the favor a minute later as Roberts fired a Danforth feed behind the Proctor goalie to finish the half with an 11-1 lead. It is also important to mention the consistent play of short stick middies Jeff Twichell (Exeter, NH), freshman Justin Wright (Waccabuc, NY) and Matt Parker who, along with the long stick middie duo of Josh Boissoneau (Bedford, NH) and Andrew Richardson (Lancaster, MA), were up and down the field throughout the game - riding, clearing and making critical transitional plays for KUA. The second half was characterized by a lot of quality playing time for many deserving players who took advantage of their opportunities on the field. Brent Bourgeois (New Haven, VT), Zach Dayno (East Thetford, VT), Nate Plummer (Plainfield, NH), Sam Blackman (Kennebunk, ME), Andrew Morgan (Charlotte, NC),David Frasz and speedster Frankie Pires (Glen Ellyn, IL) all saw significant time and played hard and productively. Backup goalie sophomore Jonny Lowenstein (Hastings-On-Hudson, NY) replaced starter Brian Holland (Barrington, RI) and played the entire second half. Doing a fine job – he not only guarded the Wildcat net but cleared the ball under pressure as well. Congratulations to Jon for a job well done! Two more goals by Galvin and one each by Twichell, Lavin and Schmidt rounded out the scoring for Kimball Union.
The Wildcats will attempt to keep in the win column as they host a tough Tilton Academy Ram team next Wednesday at 2:00 pm on Carver Field. Tilton, losing only by several goals to Cushing Academy several weeks ago, will undoubtedly be a formidable opponent. The face off is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
