College Advising News: Demystifying Financial Aid

College affordability is an important topic for families, and early awareness is helpful. Attending college is a very expensive investment with four-year costs exceeding $250,000 at many private institutions

For many families, financial aid will be a significant part of the application process. The process may seem cumbersome and confusing, but the College Advising Office has several resources available to KUA families to help demystify the process.

Access Applied is an online resource created by college financial aid experts to help deliver high-quality information on college affordability and financial aid to students and parents. Whether you are applying for need-based aid or sorting out your options, Access Applied will walk you through the process.

To learn more about Access Applied and work with the great resource, complete the registration form using the access code "Wildcats1813" to get started. Access Applied also has a great overview video on YouTube.

Many families also look for scholarships outside of individual academic institutions. There are several resources to help find these scholarships. We recommend FastWeb.com, a free database of thousands of scholarships. Students are asked to create an individual profile and are matched with possible scholarships for which they might be competitive. Families do not need to spend money to find money.

If any families have questions about financial aid, please email the KUA College Advising Office or call (603) 469-2170.
