Kennedy FitzSimons collected three hits in four at bats, as the Wildcats defeated Cushing Academy 10-2 on Wednesday. FitzSimons tripled in the seventh inning, tripled in the fifth inning, and doubled in the second inning.
KUA got on the board in the first inning after Zoie Stevens grounded out, scoring one run. KUA flipped the game on its head in the top of the second, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 6-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Stevens that drove in two.
Adi Runge earned the win for the Wildcats. The right-handed pitcher surrendered eight hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.
KUA amassed 13 hits in the game. Stevens provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led KUA with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Anna Baker, Stella Kozak, Leila Portugal, and Avy Arias each collected multiple hits for the Wildcats.
In the second game of the day,
Leila Portugal collected four hits in five at bats, as the Wildcats defeated Winchendon School 17-7. Portugal singled in the first inning, singled in the second inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the seventh inning.
KUA jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Portugal singled, scoring one run, Stella Kozak drew a walk, scoring one run, Kennedy FitzSimons singled, scoring two runs, and Avy Arias lined out, scoring one run.
KUA added to its early lead in the top of the second inning after scoring on a wild pitch, and Gabi Young singled to right field, each scoring one run.
A single by Zoie Stevens extended the Wildcats' lead to 9-6 in the top of the third inning.
KUA added three more runs in the top of the seventh inning on four hits. Arias singled, scoring one run, and Adi Runge hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs.
Runge earned the win for KUA, her second of the day. The pitcher allowed one hit and one run over five and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking two.
The Wildcats belted 17 hits in the game. Stevens provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led KUA with four runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 3-for-4 on the day. FitzSimons, Anna Baker, and Arias each collected multiple hits. Baker and Kozak led the team with two bases on balls each. Stevens, Runge, Kozak, and Portugal each stole multiple bases as KUA tallied 17 stolen bases for the game.
