KUA fights hard on the road

The girls JV hockey team travelled to St. Paul's where they faced a big, talented team that was hungry for revenge. When we met in the first game of the season, it was clearly an upset that we beat them (with the help of four goals by Mary Leech). But this time Leech, like Alison Pollard, was out with a concussion. They both helped on the bench, but could not play. Sickness took more of our players out before we even left. Even the eleven players who made the trip were fighting off sickness and injury. Nonetheless, they fought hard. Determined to start strong, they won the opening face off, and pushed to get the puck into the offensive zone. St. Paul's denied the attack and countered by scoring a goal. The  Wildcats quickly lined up ready to even the score. By the end of the first period, we had spent very little time in the offensive zone and were down 3-0. We were adjusting though, and learning from our mistakes. In the second period, we held them to only one more goal and we were building some offensive momentum. We were determined to make the third period ours. Even after another three goals by St. Paul's the Wildcats continued to fight until, finally, we were rewarded with a goal. Captain Katie Dole fired a bomb of a wrist shot past their keeper with about three and a half minutes to go, and with renewed energy the team continued to attack with such tenacity that St. Paul's had to call a timeout to regroup. Each one of our players worked hard and played well. At forward we had: Storm Sideleau, Katie Dole, Katie Decker, Caitlyn Lowe, Ali Fernsell, and Jesse Dole, on defense: Morgan Sebor, Marina Cerulo, Meg Fauver, and Aly Young. In goal, Kate Dong had 26 saves! They stuck together as a team, and even had a lot of fun. At the end of the game, the scoreboard showed our worst loss of the season, by far, but considering the way these girls rose to meet the challenges they faced in this game, it may have been one of our finer moments.
