Wildcats Finish Strong in Tough Game

The girls JV Hockey team faced off against a talented team from Exeter on Saturday. Kate Dong played an exceptional game in goal. In the first period she kept KUA in the game, letting in only one goal despite being peppered with shots. Exeter was strong at the blue line, making it hard for KUA to get the puck out of the defensive zone, but we did have a few good offensive opportunities. At the end of two periods, Exeter had extended their lead to 3. Determined to come back, KUA picked up the pace in the third period, forcing Exeter to spend more time in their defensive zone. There were several near misses, until Alison Pollard scored on a shot to the five hole, assisted by Ali Fernsell with two minutes left. Katie Dole nearly brought the game within one goal as she attacked the Exeter net in the final minutes, but unfortunately nothing materialized. The KUA girls improved throughout the game as they adjusted to the speed and talent of their opponents. Despite the disappointment of losing, this was a great game. We only wish we could play them a second time!
Instead, the girls will have to save their best stuff for the faculty this Wednesday. After the previous “rubber match” ended in a tie, this is sure to be an exciting game!
