Girls JV Hockey defeats NMH on their ice

For the first time ever in the short history of the program, the Girls JV Hockey team defeated Northfield Mount Hermon on their ice. Co-captain Katie Dole got the scoring started after Meg Fauver passed the puck from the point to Maura Doyle in the corner and Doyle found Dole in the slot. In the second period Dole scored again, this time assisted by Freshman phenom Morgan Sebor. Co-captain Erin Mattila netted the next one to give KUA a 3-0 lead. Meanwhile, in the defensive end, Kate Dong was strong as ever in goal, turning away several dangerous scoring opportunities while our defenders worked hard to get the puck out of our zone. With less than two minutes in the second period, NMH finally got one through, so it was 3-1 going into the third. KUA came out flying on the fresh sheet of ice determined to score first. Mary Leech carried the puck into the offensive zone blasted a wrist shot, overpowering their goalie on the glove side. With under ten minutes left to play, NMH was determined to fight back. They sent their best and fastest skaters flying through the neutral zone. These aggressive transitions resulted two goals. Then it was Leech again who scored on a defensive rush that started in our zone while we were short-handed. With a 5-3 lead KUA had to continue fighting for every inch of ice. NMH managed to score one more with about a minute left, but we controlled the puck for the remainder of the game to preserve a hard-fought win. Thanks to all the parents who braved the cold to support the team! This week we will face New Hampton in Akerstrom on Friday, then travel to Vermont Academy on Saturday.
