Maintenance Tech 1 - Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical

Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks a qualified individual to fill the role of Maintenance Technician I in Facilities & Operations to carry out a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair services for buildings across campus as directed by the Facilities Manager and Director of Facilities and Operations. Each Maintenance Technician I may utilize a specialty skill based on experience and ability to complete tasks within that specialty. This specialty will be identified in the offer letter upon hire. The Maintenance Technician I directly reports to the Facilities Manager.
 
ABOUT THE POSITION 
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
  • Performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks that may include, but are not limited to:
    • Carpentry, Doors, Hardware, Windows, and Flooring
    • Mechanical/Plumbing/Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
    • Electrical
    • Painting (interior and exterior; sheetrock repair)
    • Appliances and Furniture
  • Pursuing completion of daily maintenance work and project assignments.
  • Assisting skilled trades workers to perform maintenance, repair, and project work associated with the job.
  • Performing facility inspections, safety checks, and preventive maintenance (PM) checks.
  • Working independently in the absence of supervision as directed by manager.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required.
  • Assisting with snow removal and grounds maintenance as required.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by manager based on training and capability.
  • Adhering to expectations outlined in the job description and employee handbook.
  • Working in a safe manner at all times, complying with appropriate safety requirements as directed and for the task assigned.
  • Promoting the core values of the F&O department by demonstrating accountability, integrity, discipline, and trust in their work and interactions with the campus community.
 
QUALIFICATIONS 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • The applicant must be able to work independently with a high energy level as well as a strong desire to help others.  The job requires someone with excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt to always changing priorities.
  • Basic knowledge of the standard tools and practices of the various trades such as carpentry, painting, sheetrock repair, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing,
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the building and mechanical trades.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions and documentation of work assignment results.
  • The applicant must have some rudimentary computer skills.
  • The applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • The applicant must be able to pass a required background check.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated experience in maintenance or appropriate technical field.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must have visual and aural acuity to complete job functions and responsibilities and to effectively interact with coworkers, faculty, and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to work effectively with coworkers.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills and the ability to resolve issues in a positive manner as they arise.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to high, precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Because of these potential exposures, the employee is required to attend all related safety training sessions and follow/comply with all appropriate safety guidelines. The employee will adhere to the department dress code including assigned uniforms and proper personal protective equipment.

WORK SHIFT
The work shift for this position is full-time and will be based on the assignment and needs of the Academy.  The workday is an eight-hour shift, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekends for special events.
