  • Advancement Executive Assistant and Office Manager


    Kimball Union Academy is accepting applications for the position of Advancement Executive Assistant and Office Manager. This highly visible position will administratively support the Director of Advancement and assist the Advancement team with special projects and events. Additional responsibilities include entering and maintaining data in the development gift information system, gift processing and reporting. The ideal candidate will enjoy a busy office setting and will offer exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and the use of databases are required, preferably Raiser’s Edge and ResearchPoint.

  • Director of Innovation and Design

    With the creation of a renovated Maker Space, recent fundraising successes, the development of extra-curricular activities in robotics and STEM, as well as a strong traditional curriculum in science and mathematics, Kimball Union aspires to be the leading independent school in the STEM fields in northern New England. Beyond individual elements developed over the years, we seek to create an integrated approach to STEM that transcends typical academic boundaries by strengthening cross-disciplinary and project-based learning while utilizing advanced principles of design and technology on a school-wide level.

    The Director of Innovation and Design will develop and teach a Design Thinking course and may teach/direct a selection of the following:

    • Courses within the Science and/or Math Departments, including but not necessarily limited to Physics, Engineering, and Computer Science courses
    • Lead the school’s STEM Scholar Program
    • Lead the afterschool STEM Activity, including engaging students in appropriate collaborative and competitive activities
    • Serve as the Design Facilitator/Integrationist for cross-disciplinary, project-based learning on the Academy’s Academic Council
    • Manage the Maker Space and collaborate with teachers to create technology-driven design projects as part of the STEM initiative
    The ideal candidate will understand the engineering design process, will be comfortable operating in one or more programming languages, and will be experienced in robotics.
     
    Desired qualifications include a Master's degree and five or more years of related experience, experience working on STEM-related projects with high school-aged students, and a strong commitment to teamwork and problem-solving.

  • History Teacher

    We are seeking an experienced and innovative history teacher to become a full time member of the KUA community beginning with the 2019-2020 academic year, teaching in the history department and participating actively in athletics or activities and residential life. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Teach four sections of history including AP Economics and possibly other advanced courses in European and/or US History
    • Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices
    • Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the on-going collaborative effort to innovate and improve KUA’s curriculum
    • Participate in committee work as assigned by school leadership
    • Coach/supervise two seasons of afternoon sports or activities
    • Serve as a dorm parent and six times per year as a member of the weekend supervisory team
    • Advise a small cohort of students, acting as conduit for parents, and advising in a variety of academic and personal matters
     
    QUALIFICATIONS
    An ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:
    • A bachelor’s degree in history, economics, education or a closely related field, a graduate degree in education, economics or history is strongly preferred
    • 3-5 years (or more) of teaching high school history and/or economics
    • Current pedagogical practices that may include experience with Universal Design for Learning, backwards planning (Understanding by Design), and project based learning
    • Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department
    • Experience coaching a range of sports
    • Facility with Mac OS, SMARTboard technologies, Google apps, and other history education-enhancing products is preferred
    • Experience participating in a high school residential student life program
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Flexible, resilient and creative working within a fast-paced environment
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record for building strong relationships with both students and colleagues
    • Strong analytical skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly
    • Personal dedication to investing in the lives of young people

  • Part Time Bus Driver

    Kimball Union Academy is seeking part-time school bus drivers to transport students primarily for athletic events. Additional extracurricular runs may also be available as needed. Typical runs are Wednesdays and Saturdays. 
    Experienced bus drivers with a CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements is required and must be able to provide 10 years of employment history.
