Get to know the newest member KUA College Advising

Whit Willocks joins College Advising.

This January, KUA welcomed Whitaker “Whit” Willocks as the newest member of the faculty. Whit joins the College Advising team as Assistant Director of College Advising, and is also on the Girls Varsity Lacrosse coaching staff. She is excited to join the KUA family and work with students.

Whit holds an undergraduate and master’s degree from the University of Virginia, where she was a member of the women’s lacrosse team from 2005-2010 and captained the team in 2010. After receiving her master’s degree in education at UVA, Whit worked for a technology firm before moving to the Admissions Office and coach of varsity field hockey & lacrosse at Choate Rosemary Hall. She then became the Assistant Women’s Lacrosse coach at Dartmouth College. Prior to joining KUA, Whit was the Director of Events and Program Coordinator for a Non-Profit Global Association called AISAP. Whit, her husband James, and their daughter Charlie, have recently returned to the Upper Valley. James is the Head Coach for the Dartmouth Men’s Rugby Team, and they are very excited to join the KUA family. We recently connected with Whit to ask her a few questions about joining the KUA community, working in College Advising, and more.

A Q&A with KUA's newest faculty member, Whitaker Willocks.

What excites you the most about your new position here at KUA and working with our students?

Whit: In my new position here at KUA, I am most excited about mentoring and guiding our students not only through the college process, but through their life here at KUA. I want to inspire every student to believe in themselves, their abilities, and their true potential. Every student is different, but they all have so many wonderful things to offer and my hope is that through my work here at KUA, I will be able to build upon the many successes our students have already acquired and launch them into their very bright futures.

What are 5 fun facts that will help the KUA community get to know you?

Whit:
  • I am the youngest of four girls and every member of my family has worked or is working at a prep school
  • We have a 20-month-old little girl, Charlie, who is getting sassier by the minute
  • I lived on a sheep & beef farm in New Zealand for a year and worked there as a farmer
  • I have run three marathons and am planning to run the NYC marathon next and the Boston Marathon again
  • In my next life, I want to be a pro tennis player
What was it about our school/community that drew you to us?

Whit: KUA is not only a great school, but it is a family. There are many great schools out there, but it is a rare occasion when you walk onto a school campus and immediately feel as though you are a part of something special and bigger than yourself. I have always held KUA in very high regard, as I have known friends who attended KUA and colleagues who have worked here. So, when my family and I moved back to the Upper Valley, it seemed too good to be true that I could return to the work that I am truly passionate about at an institution that not only cares about the well-being of each individual student, but one where you feel as though everyone has your back and we are all in it together – working together to be the best version of ourselves.

That is KUA.
