KUA tops Milton with a strong third period showing

Senior Matt Egan and junior Arlo Merritt each scored two goals and the Kimball Union Wildcats scored four times in the third period to beat Milton Academy 6-2 and advance to the final of the Flood-Marr tournament. After a slow start, which saw Milton take a 1-0 lead into the second period, KUA turned things up in the second as Egan scored his first of the game before senior Thomas Samuelsen converted from the slot on the powerplay to put the Wildcats up 2-1. Milton tied it late in the second and the teams headed into the third deadlocked.  KUA came out strong in the final frame and junior Seth Stadheim scored on a rebound to give KUA the lead just minutes in. Soon after, Merritt tallied his first of two when he converted a rebound off a shot from junior lineman Drew Bennett. Egan scored his second minutes later on a wonderful pass from sophomore Sullivan Mack. and Merritt, having fought off a Milton defender, scored an outstanding breakaway goal late to round out the scoring. Senior Sean Dynan earned the win in net for the Wildcats.
