When watching KUA and NMH warm-up before the contest today, it was clear it would be a tight match-up. Similar depth in line-up and experience of players, made for an exciting first period. There were fourteen minutes and 59 seconds of back and forth hockey before the Hoggers snuck one by Fontaine while the buzzer rang. The period ended 1-0 in favor of NMH. Of note in the first period, Ella Malone found her way onto the score sheet with her first ever penalty. The ref commented that he had never seen someone with such a big smile headed into the penalty box.
The second period provided more back and forth action. Julia Fontaine came up huge with a pro-like glove save on a tough shot. Minutes later after pummeling her with shot after shot, NMH got by her to make it 2-0. Off the face-off senior Jamie Johnson stole the puck, soared wide into the offensive zone and took a sniper of a shot that sailed over the netminder’s glove. The game remained 2-1 in favor of the Hogger’s until the third period. NMH continued to pepper Fontaine with point shots, wrap-arounds and relentless scrambles in front of the net. Final score was 6-1. Noteworthy game goes to the defense – Rose Abendroth, Charlotte Greenspan, Esmé Juors, and Lindsay Peckham. Outstanding job holding the blue line, and quarterbacking the breakout. Onward and upward as KUA looks for another W to add to the record books next Wednesday against Holderness.
