Under the exceptional leadership of David Weidman, Theater Director, the Kimball Union cast and crew of TheAmish Project delivered four powerful performances.
Performed in the round, The Amish Project is the story of the 2006 Nickel Mines schoolhouse shooting in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. At a time when gun violence continues to haunt school communities, this powerful production was about heartbreak, forgiveness and compassion, performed masterfully by a poised, talented, and committed cast who handled the heavy content in a mature and passionate way.
Brilliance was not only on display by the actors, as the technical crew designed and built a minimalist and multipurpose set, fitting for the intimate seating arrangement and content.
Tom Lord, faculty member, responded to the production during a recent All-School Meeting. He shared with us that “art asks us to look at the world differently. And different points of view help us see ourselves more clearly. The Amish Project did that. It gave us many different points of view from different characters' perspectives, and that helped us look at the difficult subject matter of the play more clearly.”
From start to finish, this was a production, not a play, that was both educational in its creation and delivery. Kudos to all involved!
