A phenomenal match up

KUA had two extraordinary games in less than 24 hours against College L’Assomption from Quebec City. On Friday night, the Wildcats started slowly and were down 2 – 0 late in the second period. Parker Hall scored with 41 seconds left in the 2nd on a blast from the center of the blue line. He scored again on an identical shot 43 seconds later. The puck was clearly still in the air when the horn sounded and team knew that it couldn’t count, but it gave us a big boost going into the locker room. Both teams had great chances through the 3rd – Elijah Harris was outstanding in the KUA net – but Kyle Shero scored to tie the game with 1:11 left. Neither team was able to score during the five minute overtime period, and we went to a shoot-out. Dylan van Leuwen-Hall shot first for KUA and made a great deke move – the goalie saved it somehow at the last second. Alex Heinritz was stopped as well, but Elijah Harris saved all three shots on him. Chris Adam was the last player to shoot, and he made it look easy as he fired the puck over the goalie’s shoulder to win the game. The rematch on Saturday was just as close. Oscar Flory was in the KUA net this time, and he too had an extraordinary game. Alex Heinritz scored off a perfect pass from Mike Lombardi but the Canadians came back to tie. The two teams went into overtime again with no goals in the five minute extra period, and the schedule did not allow time for another shoot-out as the Girls’ Varsity was waiting to take the ice. This is the first time we had had the opportunity to play against College L’Assomption and certainly hope that the relationship will continue.
