KUA Students Attend Dartmouth Entrepreneurial Ventures Symposium

On Saturday, April 6, 2013, six students from Mr. Lord's Probability and Statistics class traveled to Dartmouth College's Tuck Business School to attend the Dartmouth Entrepreneurial Ventures Symposium. Hosted by KUA parent and Tuck Professor Gregg Fairbrothers (Alicia '14), the symposium was an opportunity for venture capitalists and entrepreneurs to share ideas about the future of start-up enterprises. The keynote addresses were given by Dartmouth President Carol Folt and New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan. The KUA students in Mr. Lord's class have been studying various methods of accounting and investing, with a special emphasis on venture capital investments. After her address, Governor Hassan met the KUA contingent, which included seniors Devon Thomas, Devin Gilligan, Jono Gould, Fiekah Fataar, Evie Whittemore, and Christy Conrad. On the way back to KUA, the group stopped to talk with Mr. Lord's daughter, Morgan, who started a very successful gelato shop in Hanover, Morano Gelato, three years ago. Morgan talked to the students about the challenges of starting a business and obtaining financial support and showed the students around for a rare look at the way Morano Gelato makes their uniquely fresh product. It was a terrific learning experience for all and another way our students take advantage of KUA's close ties to Dartmouth College and businesses in the Upper Valley.
