A Game of Firsts for KUA

Eileen Williams
It was a day of firsts for the Kimball Union softball team.  Not only was it the Lady Wildcats’ first game of the season, it was the first time they have been outside this spring. Freshman hurler Cayla Crumb recorded her first strike-out of her high school career while senior co-captain Evie Whittemore knocked in Lizzie Palker ‘14 (who had the visitor’s first hit of the day) for KUA’s first run. Next up was freshman Kylie Shields who ripped a single up the middle and earned her first RBI of the season. Senior Mackenzie Frazier stole second base after reaching on a single and then scored on Shields’ hit. KUA found themselves down by just 2 runs (2-4) after 3.5 innings but unfortunately NMH had a productive 4th. Another talented freshman pitcher, Kayleigh Coombs, took to the mound in relief and struck out 3 batters to end the inning.

Lizzie Palker and Katie Firstenberger ‘13 had strong defensive games while catcher Evie Whittemore worked hard behind the plate.
