Washington, D.C. — J. Caleb “J.C.” Boggs III has been named the 2012 Republican Lawyer of the Year by the Board of Governors of the Republican National Lawyers Association (RNLA). J.C. was selected as Republican Lawyer of the Year in recognition of his outstanding professional accomplishments and years of service to the Republican Party and its ideals and will be honored at a reception tonight at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington, D.C.
David Norcross, Chairman of RNLA Board of Governors, said, “The RNLA is privileged to count J.C. among its ranks and indebted to him for his leadership, in particular as concerns banking law. He is most deserving of the 2012 award.”
A partner in the Government Advocacy and Public Policy practice group at King & Spalding, J.C.’s extensive experience and effective representation of clients before the legislative and executive branches have earned him recognition as a leader in government relations law. Chambers USA calls him “one of the most proficient attorneys on the scene.”
In 2009, President George W. Bush appointed J.C. to a six-year term as representative to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, an agency of the World Bank and leading international arbitration institution devoted to investor-State dispute settlement. He also served as counsel to U.S. Senator William V. Roth, Jr. on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs and the Committee on Governmental Affairs, including the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
In addition to his successful public policy practice, J.C. has served on numerous non-profit boards, including that of his high school, Kimball Union Academy, where he was Board Secretary and Chairman of the Committee on Trustees. In 2010, he established the Boggs Scholarship for Public Service at the University of Delaware in honor of his grandfather and namesake, former U.S. Congressman, Delaware Governor and U.S. Senator, J. Caleb Boggs.
A past-President of the Republican National Lawyers Association, J.C. remains an active member of its Board of Governors. He chaired the National Policy Conference in 2011 and is a frequent participant at the RNLA’s National Election Law Seminar. J.C. also serves on the National Finance Committee of the Republican Governors Association, and regularly advises candidates for state and federal elective office. He was a volunteer lawyer for Bush-Cheney in 2000 and 2004, and in 2008, served as chief election day liaison to the McCain-Palin campaign in the State of Wisconsin.
A strong and early supporter of Governor Mitt Romney in 2008 and 2012, J.C. is co-chair of Lawyers for Romney in the State of Delaware, and has worked to promote Lawyers for Romney nationally. J.C. also serves as a member of Mitt Romney's Justice Advisory Committee, Small Business Advisory Council and Financial Services Advisory Group.
