KUA rallies to tie New Hampton in final minutes of game
On Friday, January 20, the Girls JV Hockey Team faced a stronger than expected New Hampton team. New Hampton jumped to an early lead, but KUA kept them within reach.
In the first period, New Hampton scored five, while Caitlyn Lowe and co-captain Erin Mattila scored for KUA. In the second period, New Hampton extended their lead by one more. For the third period, the entire KUA team was dressed and ready to play, even those who had been held out due to the expected inexperience of the New Hampton Team. The Wildcats pulled together as a team, rallied, and mounted a steady comeback starting with Mattila who set the tone by scoring her second goal of the game 15 seconds into the period with an assist from Alison Pollard. Next it was Valena Altendorf with her first goal of the season, assisted by Katie Decker. Mary Leech kept the run going with about seven minutes left, and finally, with under three minutes left to play, assisted by co-captain Katie Dole, Morgan Sebor came up with the tying goal keeping this season’s unbeaten streak alive! Special recognition goes to Kate Dong, who stepped out of the goal to play center for the first time, Anna Hadlock who normally plays defense for us, but was strong in goal, and the gold line players who played in their first game: Yirui Xu,
Ashley Tan, Dorothy Li, and Kristen Chen!
