Scott Gordon '82 Named U.S. Coach for World Hockey Championship

Former New York Islanders coach Scott Gordon was named Wednesday as the head coach of the U.S. entry for the upcoming world hockey championship.

Gordon, who coached the Islanders from 2008 to 2010, was head coach of the U.S. men's national team in 2010 and was an assistant coach with the Olympic team that won silver at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

The world showdown is scheduled for April 29 to May 15 in Kosice and Bratislava, Slovakia.

The members of the U.S. team, which will be primarily comprised of players whose teams didn't make the NHL playoffs or were eliminated early, will be selected by the U.S. national team advisory group.
