He’s left a legacy of sportsmanship and dedication that remains in the hearts and minds of his students.  Bruce Paro, a member of the class of 1974 said, “I had a wonderful time playing for Georg…He taught fundamentals, emphasized fair play and sportsmanship, and let the team find its own personality.”  Other students remember his special talent for encouraging those on his teams and in his classrooms do their very best for him.  His vitality, enthusiasm, and friendliness shown through in all interactions with him.
John Kluge, a member of the Class of 1966 and current English Department Chair here on The Hilltop wrote, “Georg’s gentle sense of humor and his steadfastness have always impressed me. Despite the changes in the world beyond Meriden and in the world of KUA, Georg has been a steady and steadying presence on campus and he has always managed to find much fun in the task at hand. Whether on the soccer field, in the history classroom, climbing up Tuckerman’s, or in a faculty meeting, Georg has been direct,
unaffected, and genuinely interested in the people with whom he works…Always Georg has given of himself with kindness, but he has also always kept a sense of humor about himself, about his profession, about the school.

Retirement hasn’t slowed him down. He and Katy have enjoyed an active retirement filled with skiing, hiking, and traveling.

For his continued interest in history, athletics and Kimball Union, it is an honor to award the 2009 Sportsmanship Award to Georg Feichtinger."
