Update from the ski camp in Canada

Rather than loading in cars and buses to leave KUA for the holiday break, on Thursday December 18 at 12:30 pm the KUA XC ski team loaded into two buses for a 5 day xc ski training trip to the Mount St Anne ski resort near Quebec City. The buses were packed with 15 skiers, 4 coaches, packs and duffels full of clothes and bedding, enough food for a small army and many pairs of skis and skiing supplies. Right away many of us nodded off (most had taken numerous test just prior to leaving) and awoke to find the bus stopped. Many of us excitedly thought that we had slept a good portion of the ride and that we were close to Mount Saint Ann. However, we soon realized that we had only driven 20 minutes and were stopped at a gas station.  We, of course, unloaded to check out the convenience store aspect of the gas station. We bought more food…not all the nutritious kind, and were soon back on our way. The rest of the ride went pretty smoothly. We did stop a few more times and made it a success move across the US- Canadian border. Overall, the seven hour bus ride went by pretty quickly, thanks to lots of foods and many entertaining and funny teammates.

When we finally arrived to Mount Saint Ann we were greeted by extremely cold weather and lots of snow. We all jumped off the bus and ran into our condos and to get warm, and claim our rooms and beds for the next five days. As soon as all the food and bags were off the bus the girls skiers cooked a big bowl of pasta, which disappeared almost before it was set on the table.

On our first day, we were out of bed about 7:30 am.  We combined our efforts to produce an energizing breakfast and jumped on the bus ready to begin our first day of skiing. Although the weather was very cold we all bundled up and took on the cold. The ski trails were great with everyone skiing over 10 K that morning.  Although pretty tiring, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. We had a great lunch and a quick nap. Then before we knew it we were back on the snow for the second ski session of the day. All in all it was a great day, but by the end everyone seemed very excited about getting into a warm bed for the night.
