KUA Loses Close Game to Governor's Academy

Coach Fielder
KUA 1- Governors Academy 3

During the half-time break down 2-0 we all said that we felt in our bones that a goal was about to happen. And then before our eys senior Young-Ji Choi came through to give KUA its first goal of the season and break the shut-out of our three previous games. It came on a KUA corner taken by Young-Ji who sent the ball into the circle before taking a pass from center forward Mei, Kawanara and fired the ball into the goal. This caused great cheers and excitement on the KUA side and gave us all a feeling that we were back in the game. We had lots of action in Governor’s half of the field from our midis and forwards but just couldn’t quite score another goal although the effort was definitely there. GA put an insurance goal in at the end of the second half just after freshman Becky Young made three rapid saves in goal. Despite the loss our defense, Tara, Lillie, Annie L., Katie, Liv and Holly, played well defending our goal, the midis, Young-Ji, Laura and Nicolle were their usual speedy and effective selves and the forwards, Mei, Emily, Maria, Grace, Ashlee, Annie G., Tasy, Tae Yeon and Irene, worked hard trying to get score. Today was a great day for everyone, but hats off to Becky Young in her second game in goal where she had nine saves in the first half and three in the second. GA had five corners in the first three in the second half. KUA had 2 corners in the first half and three in the second. Both captains Holly McLaughlin and Lille Butler led the girls with exceptional play themselves. Holly is able to switch from sweeper to midi to center halfback as subs come in and did her best to keep the ball going in the right direction. Lillie was awesome in the back and in keeping her defensive line in the game right to the end. Our next game is Saturday at Proctor Academy.
