2006 Kimball Union Football Prospectus
The Kimball Union Football team is gearing up for their second season under the tutelage of former Dartmouth Head Coach and current NFL Europe Defensive Coordinator, John Lyons. Coach Lyons returns a strong squad from last season’s 5-2-1 team. The team had one of the most successful seasons in KUA history and is ready to improve with some talented newcomers and many returning players.
Coach Lyons has put together a strong group of coaches for 2006 season. Former Dartmouth and University of New Hampshire assistant coach, Ted Stewart will coordinate the offense once again this year. Dave Faucher, former Dartmouth Head Basketball Coach is ready to guide the running backs and defensive backs. Les Lawrence, former Head Football Coach at Stevens, Hanover, and Lebanon will lead the offensive and defensive lines and Brian McMahon directs the tight ends and linebackers.
Senior Evan Roberts (Middlebury, Vermont) is ready to lead the Wildcat offense at quarterback. Roberts, a converted fullback, is a throwing and running threat. Roberts will have some targets to throw to at the wide receiver and tight end position. Juniors Kellan Grenier (Nantucket, Massachusetts) and Walter Scott (Plainfield, New Hampshire), senior Hoyt Henderson (Grantham, New Hampshire) and sophomores Cameron Sutton (New York, New York) and Nathan McCann (Burlington, Vermont) are all able receivers. Senior Matt Tracey (Littleton, Colorado) will be a blocking and catching threat at the tight end position. Tracey was an All Colorado selection at Heritage High School. In the backfield, KUA will have senior George Hudson (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) at fullback. Hudson was an All Catholic League selection at LaSalle High School in Philadelphia. Joining Hudson in the backfield will be sophomores Travis Jones (New York, New York) and Justin Wright (Waccabuc, New York). Jones and Wright will both utilize their speed and agility to form a strong KUA running game.
The offensive line will be called upon to establish a ground game and protect the quarterback. Junior tackles Lawrence MacLeod (Lebanon, New Hampshire) and Timm Kaminski (Kiel, Germany) provide much of the bulk on the line. Senior guards Will Maio (Taipei, Taiwan), Matt Keane (Berlin, New Hampshire) and Garrett Dyer (Easthampton, Massachusetts) will be solid contributors inside and junior Jonathan Snow (Newport, New Hampshire) provides stability at the center position.
The Kimball Union defense should be an exciting, experienced unit this season. Kaminski, Tracey, Dyer, and Maio should prove to be a formidable defensive line. Senior Matt Cricco (Plainfield, New Hampshire) and junior Cyrus Western (Big Horn, Wyoming) will provide depth on the line.
The inside linebacking corps of Hudson, Roberts, juniors Andrew Richardson (Lancaster, Massachusetts) and Alex Gray (Brighton, Massachusetts) is an especially athletic group. The outside linebackers include juniors Ruben Austin-Schmidt (Düsseldorf, Germany), Mike Staton (Oxford, Mississippi), Ross Jones (Charleston, South Carolina), and Grenier. Working in the secondary will be Henderson, Jones, Wright, and Sutton.
Both Kaminski and Austin-Schmidt played on the German national team last year in their home country. Both players live near Cologne, Germany, which is where Lyons spent the spring in NFL Europe. The Wildcats open their season this Saturday, September 23rd at home against Pomfret School. Game time is at 2:00.
