Kimball Union Mourns the Loss of George Prescott

George Prescott, who died on  May 30, 2006,  worked at Kimball Union as a member of the athletic department from 1955-1989. He served the school and countless students in many different and important roles during his time here.  After retiring from KUA, he continued his commitment to young people as the memorable and thoughtful Director of the Plainfield Recreation Department.

"This is sad news for many people in and around town and for those directly affiliated with KUA past and present," said head of School Mike Schafer, "He will be remembered as a kind and considerate man by all who worked closely with him at KUA, and by those who knew his work with children in the local area. George was devoted to kids and to sports and recreation; he was devoted member
of the town of Plainfield."

"I worked very closely with George," said Kimball Union Athletic Director Bill Pottle, "I will definitely miss him and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to help him and work with him. He was very dedicated to his Plainfield recreation program responsibilities and very appreciative of the use of KUA's fields and facilities."

"George's dedication to student athletes, both at Kimball Union and in the Plainfield community, is legendary," said KUA Head of School, Mike Schafer. "A valued member of the KUA community, he inspired generations of young athletes and coaches. He was an educator in the truest sense of the word and I know he will be greatly missed."

"During his lifetime, George inspired generations of youngsters - all types of kids, those with athletic promise and those who enjoyed athletics recreationally.  He helped students, coaches, parents,
officials, and volunteers in every way imaginable.  In retirement, and even in failing health, George remained committed to ensuring that all kids in town had meaningful programs and a variety of sport offerings to participate in and enjoy.  He helped bring us all together around healthy activities in the healthiest of ways.  For these reasons and much more, we are truly grateful," added Mike Schafer.

A brief remembrance service, with a reception following, will take place on Saturday, June 10 at 1 pm at the Kimball Union Academy Dining Commons. Guests are invited to bring a dish or dessert to a potluck luncheon (no hot foods please, beverages will be provided.)

Following the ceremony and reception, guests are invited to a rededication of the athletic field at the Plainfield Elementary School in George's honor.
