KUA Defeated in NEPSAC Semi-Final

The Kimball Union Lady Wildcats traveled to Easthampton, MA after completing their final exams to take on a quick and talented KLHT team (King & Low-Heywood Thomas School) of Stamford, CT. The girls got off to a strong start going up by as many as 8 points in the first half, but lost a bit of momentum when NEPSAC All-Star Laura Calder went out with a scratched eye. The Cats found themselves down by 3 (20-23) at the half despite the strong efforts of senior Laura Berndt. Sophomore Lauren Darnall provided a much-need defensive spark in the second half, but KLHT hit some timely 3-pointers to keep their playoff hopes alive. Reggie Hammond and Cindy Roseen combined to score 10 points with under a minute left in the contest, but as the final buzzer sounded the black and orange found themselves with a 1 point disadvantage. KLHT won this battle 51-50 and became the eventual Class C Champions by defeating Hyde School, CT in the final round. Cindy Roseen and Laura Calder pulled down 19 and 9 rebounds respectively while also contributing a combined 23 points. Quinn Sendall chipped in with 9 points, 4 boards, 2 assists and 1 steal while teammate Marion Githegi dished out a team-high 7 assists to go along with her 8 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. KUA finished the season with an impressive 20-4 record and missed playing in the New England Championship game for just the second time in 8 years. Congratulations to all of the seniors (Maddy, Laura Berndt, Reggie, Katie, Laura Calder and Emily) and thank you for your dedication and leadership. We will miss you very much!
