3/1 DEFENSE WINS GAMES!!! The Lady Wildcats struggled from the floor in the first half of yesterday's quarter-final game shooting just 27%, but what they lacked in offensive fire-power they more than made up for in defensive intensity. KUA forced Lexington Christian Academy into committing more than 15 turnovers in the first half alone and allowed them just 9 points. The Cats continued to dominate defensively in the second half as LCA did not get on the board again until the 10 minute mark of the second stanza. Quinn Sendall was a defensive stalwart recording 3 steals, 3 rebounds and getting her hands on every loose ball. Laura Calder played excellent help-side defense, drew her first charge of the season and snagged a team-high 5 steals to go along with her 11 points and 4 rebounds.
Things heated up in the second half offensively for the black & orange as they shot a much improved 66% from the field. Overall, the Cats dished out 18 assists on 19 buckets for the game. Marion Githegi's passing in the first half was brilliant as she found her open teammates 6 times. Reggie Hammond also contributed 5 assists while Sendall chipped in with 3.
Timely buckets by Katie Wardrop, Lauren Darnall, Laura Berndt and Emily Hoar helped give KUA a comfortable lead. Cindy Roseen ended the evening with yet another double-double scoring 10 points and ripping down a team-high 12 boards. Final score was KUA - 42 Lexington Christian - 20.
KUA will now face #6 seed KLHT (King & Low-Heywood Thomas School) of Stamford, CT in the semi-final round on Friday, March 3rd. Time and location to be announced.
