KUA vs Vermont Academy

2/1 The Kimball Union Academy boys jv basketball team extended its record to 10-2 against an outgunned Vermont Academy squad, whose best player left the squad last week with a broken elbow. KUA's win came on balanced scoring from almost the whole squad, with seven different players scoring between 6 and 11 points. Peter Logan and Bryan Gee paced the Wildcats with 11 points each, followed by Ike Okpoebo (9), Ben Newton (8), Will Maio (8) Matt Cricco (7) and Chris Woodburn (6). The final score was 64-12. The Meriden sportswriters were impressed by the overall unselfish play of the Wildcats, but in the end gave the nod this week to Will Maio, who showed surprising skill as a forward. He dominated the boards and scored some impressive baskets under pressure in the paint. Honorable mention goes to Ike Okpoebo, who had his season high, including an impressive three-point shot that hit nothing but net.
