A decisive win

Yogi Berra said it, the New England Patriots proved it, and the KUA Wildcats showed today that “it ain’t over ‘till it’s over.” Down 3 – 0 to a strong Tilton team after just one period, the Wildcats regrouped, came out of the locker room, and scored three in the second period to tie things up. Zach Whitehead scored first followed by Jay Chubb and Alex Regnery. Tom Pierce scored on a blast from the blue line during a powerplay early in the third period to put KUA ahead for the first time. Tilton countered and evened the score, and with six minutes left in the game, the Wildcats, who had been mostly penalty free up to that point, drew three quick penalties. The penalty kill unit controlled the puck for much of the time, and Cam Tucker snagged the puck in the neutral zone and went in alone to score a short-handed goal to put KUA up 5- 4. The Rams pulled their goalie for an extra skater in the final minute and Zach Whitehead scored an empty net goal to bring the score to 6 – 4. This was an impressive come-from-behind victory against a strong Lakes Region opponent, and gives the Wildcats a strong claim as the undisputed unofficial Lakes Region JV Champions. As one player remarked in the van on the way home, “this win was bigger than Trump’s wall.”
