Boys’ JV1 Soccer Team Holds on to Win over NHS, 3-2
On an unseasonably warm November day, the BJV1 Soccer team took on a talented New Hampton School squad on Brewster Field. NHS went up 1-0 in the first half on a penalty kick. The Wildcats never let up and even though their numbers were reduced due to illness and injury, the boys went all out in the second half and scored three beautiful goals. The first came two minutes into the 2nd half when Arthur Hwang ’17, poked the ball to Andrew Robertello ’18, who through sheer determination and hustle, got past two defenders and finished the play. In the 65th minute co-captain Se Ho Kim ’16, carried the ball down the flank for 60 yards beating player after player. He then dished it off to Ahmed Naghi ’17, who turned and slotted the ball to Zach Wennik ’18. Wennik turned and blasted a missile into the back of the net. Up 2-1, the Cats did not relent. Three minutes later Noah Herfort ’17, who played nearly the entire game, launched a long service to Khenrab Norgay ’19, at the top of the area. Norgay settled it nicely, turned the defender around, and cleanly beat the keeper. NHS put it into high gear and put tremendous pressure on the boys in black. The visitors were rewarded with a goal with three minutes left in the game but the KUA side held firm until the final whistle. These two well-matched teams go at it again next Wednesday at NHS. First, however, the Wildcats travel to Exeter for a game on Saturday. For four seniors, it was their last home game. Many thanks to Se Ho Kim, Alex Plummer, Cosku Kaplan, and Myles Brockelman for all that they bring each and every day.
