KUA runs out of time at Andover

Woody Redpath
Despite having 55 shots during the game, KUA was unable to crack the Andover goalie until the last minute and thirty seconds.

The Wildcats played well in the first period, transitioning at pace, creating a few odd man rushes including a 2 on 1 between Ben Finkelstein and George Sennott. Finkelstein drove wide on the right side, slid the puck over to Sennott who opened up for the one-timer, but, as was the theme of the night, was stopped by a strong post to post move from the Andover goalie. The period ended 0-0.

Andover struck first in the second on a 2 on 1 of their own. Oscar Flory made the initial save, but the puck somehow bounced up, over his head and behind him where the second Andover player put it into the open net. KUA continued to have chances, including a shot from the point by Jake Massie that rang the cross bar. The period ended 1-0 for Andover.

Andover struck twice more, early in the third period to make it 3-0. Despite the hole, KUA continued to fight back with grit and determination. Dom Franco had chances that were stimied by the Andover goalie. Pat Shea had a few one timer chances from the slot. Point shots found their way through, but only to be blocked aside by the Andover goalie. With 2 minutes left in the game, down 3-0, KUA pulled the goalie to make it a 5 on 4 opportunity (there were matching penalties). Knowing that Andover couldn't ice the puck with a whistle being blown, KUA crashed the net well. 5 seconds into the sort-of power play, Brendan Riley knocked home a rebound off of a shot from Ben Finkelstein. A minute thirty left, down 3-1. Jack McCarthy made it 3-2 with 30 seconds left after he pounced on a rebound shot from Finkelstein. KUA wasn't done. With 15 seconds left, McCarthy had a chance from the top of the circle. He shot well, but the Andover goalie made a nice blocker save that cleared the zone and secured the victory for Andover.

If only there were a few more ticks on the clock.
