The second-seeded Wildcats faced off today against undefeated Beaver Country Day School in the NEPSAC Class C championship game. it was the second consecutive trip to the finals for KUA and 9th time overall since 1999. Although the Cats came up short in this battle, they have many reasons to be proud. After starting the season 2-4, KUA got things rolling in January and went undefeated knocking off Class A NMH and Deerfield and avenged two earlier losses to Lakes Region League rival Proctor on their home court. The young team started to gel as the rookies gained valuable playing experience and the leadership of our seniors took over. KUA found themselves playing several playoff bound teams in February but gained confidence when they realized that they could compete with any school on any given day. Close games against Governors, where the Cats found themselves with the lead until less than 3 minutes left in the game, and New Hampton prepared the squad for the playoffs. Despite having just 7 healthy players for much of the season, the girls fought hard day and day out. They peaked at the perfect time and did their school proud by knocking off the 7th and 3rd seeds on their way to a another championship game. Beaver was the better team on March 3rd and we tip our hats to them. However, this game will also serve as motivation for next winter when the Lady Wildcats look to make the tournament for the 15th straight year.
Many thanks to our senior players Becca DeTurk, Fiekah Fataar and Gretchen Schissel for their dedication and hard work throughout their time on the Hilltop. You have set an example of leadership and teamwork for others to follow. To our senior manager Dee Rodriguez, we will miss your quick wit, friendship and ability to keep the scorebook. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our team.
CONGRATULATIONS Wildcats on another successful season! Not just successful in terms of wins and losses, but successful because we met our goals, we came together as a TEAM, made lasting memories together, and most importantly...had FUN!
