KUA and New Hampton battled back and forth for 45 minutes before New Hampton scored to go up 7-6 and then 8-6 in the final three minutes of today’s game. Playing at KUA under sunny, warm skies, both teams scored three goals in the first quarter. New Hampton scored one more in the second quarter to end the half with a narrow 4-3 lead. The lead did not last long, however, before KUA tied the score 4-4 halfway through the third quarter. Again New Hampton took the lead, this time extending it to 6-4 to end the third. The Wildcats stormed back scoring two quick goals to start the final quarter. With the score tied, and just over three minutes remaining on the clock, both teams fought for every ground ball and possession. Despite New Hampton’s two consecutive scores, KUA fought until the end, narrowly missing one great scoring opportunity, and then another before time expired. KUA’s Andrew Jarrett finished the day with three goals. Morgan Dewdney, Eric Megnia, and Mike Robertello each contributed on the scoreboard. Cam Beecy was a perfect 5/5 at the faceoff mark to give KUA key possessions on restarts. The Wildcat defense held strong all day, limiting New Hampton to outside shots, nearly all of which were handled calmly by goalie Santiago Morales. Trey McDougall, Matt Michaud, and Chris Anderson were stellar in their defensive roles, while Hunter Braswell played smart down a man defense. Mike Powell continued to defend deftly up top while Jacob Paluch and PJ Tessier used their speed to defend and clear balls in transition.
