KUA held an 8-5 lead with 2 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter only to see NMH score three goals to tie the score and send the game to overtime. Both teams had multiple opportunities on offense to win the game. In the third overtime, KUA goalie Tim McNair stopped a point blank shot, which led to a long clearing pass to Kevin Vieira. Vieira sprinted sixty yards before feeding Max Abendroth who put the ball in the back of the NMH net for the game winner in the third overtime.
KUA’s Alex Keiver scored the games first goal, but NMH led at the end of one quarter, 3-1. In the second quarter, Ian Timpone, off feeds from fellow attackmen Max Abendroth and Keiver, put two away and Kevin Vieira scored the first of his three goals to even the score at four apiece at the half. Vieira scored the first goal of the third quarter to put the Wildcats up by one, but NMH answered less than a minute later to tie the score at 5-5. Face-offs were key all game, and KUA’s Ryan Lund along with wingmen Mike Powell, PJ Tessier, Andrew Jarrett, and Karl Menzel, started winning the battles. The offense made good on their opportunities, scoring three consecutive goals to put the Wildcats in a commanding 8-5 lead with 4:28 seconds remaining in the game. Despite hard play and tenacious defense, the Wildcats could not hold the lead. With less than two minutes remaining in the game, NMH scored three consecutive goals of their own to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, KUA’s defense, including Pat Lynch, Riley Alderman, and Trey McDougall gave up little ground and forced outside shots. Tim McNair kept an eagle eye on the ball and deftly stopped 4 shots in the three overtime periods. His last save, his best, quickly led to the Abendroth goal at the other end.
