KUA falls 17-6 against Pomfret

Despite a back and forth battle in the first half, mistakes allowed Pomfret to pull away in the second half en route to a 17-6 win. Playing at a neutral site, Pomfret jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead. Junior Andrew Jarrett figured in the next two goals assisting first on an Alext Keiver snipe and then scoring unassisted to tie the score.  Pomfret tallied two more to end the first quarter with a 4-2 lead.  They extended their lead to 5-2 early in the second period, before KUA’s Jon Spencer fed senior Andrew Cole to narrow the lead. Spencer scored shortly after off a Max Abendroth feed to pull the Wildcats within one. Pomfret managed two more goals before the half and KUA one more, again Spencer from Abendroth to end the half with the Wildcats narrowly down 7-5. The errors mounted in the second half and KUA could not win critical ground ball battles. Pomfret went on an eight goal run extending their lead to 15-5. In the fourth quarter, Jon Spencer netted his third goal and first career hat trick to start the scoring. While a frustrating result, KUA recognized that the mistakes took their toll today but the hustle and camaraderie held strong.  Nearly all of Pomfret’s goals occurred in transition. In 6v6, the Wildcat defense held strong, forcing mostly outside, off angle shots. Kevin Vieira, Eric Bogart, Peter Prendergast, Try McDougall, and Riley Alderman all put in solid efforts at defense in front of goalie Tim McNair. Long pole Mike Powell was effective on clears as well as face-offs throughout the day.

KUA (0-2) plays their home opener against Williston on Wednesday at 3:45pm on Pope Field.
