On Saturday, January 21, the Girls JV Hockey Team traveled down to Vermont Academy eager for a win. While the snow was falling gently, KUA hit VA with a Storm of their own. In the first period Sideleau scored with a nice wrist shot from the top of the circle and then assisted Maura Doyle to put KUA up by two. VA bounced back, though scoring one before the end of the first period, and another at the start of the second. On the next shift, it was Jesse Dole who answered. She won a loose puck in the offensive zone and immediately put a shot on net that beat the goalie low on the stick side. Perhaps inspired by her sister, or not wanting to be outdone, co-captain Katie Dole scored on the very next shift. In the third period, Valena Altendorf, looking more and more like a real hockey player now she’s been playing for nearly three full weeks, picked up the puck in the neutral zone, banked it off the boards and collected it on the other side of the VA defender then walked in to put the puck in the back of the net. Next it was Morgan Sebor whose wrist shot bounced up off the goalie’s glove and into the net. After VA countered with one last goal of their own, Ali Fernsell scored to make sure that KUA got the last word. Kate Dong was solid in goal, despite an injury early in the second period that limited her mobility. Also strong were Alison Pollard in the offensive zone, Aly Young, and Anna Hadlock on defense.
On Wednesday, the girls hope to win their rubber match over a strong faculty team at 1:00 in Akerstrom!
