KUA wins home opener!

The girls JV hockey team defeated St. Paul's in an exciting home opener.
After a scoreless first period, Maura Doyle started the scoring early in the second period, and Mary Leech followed with two more to give the Wildcats a 3 goal lead. Kate Dong turned away three breakaways in the second period before St. Paul's finally got one through near the end of the period. With tough defensive play, backed by Dong in goal, KUA continued to ward off St. Paul's persistent attacks. Then, it was Leech again who scored on a counter-attack to make the score 4-1. But St. Paul's answered with two of their own. It was 4-3 with under three minutes to play. The defensive pairing of Caitlyn Lowe and Aly Young who were rock solid all game, continued to frustrate St. Paul's forwards and Kate Dong came up with some big saves to keep us in the game. Once again, Leech stepped up and turned the momentum back our way with a goal that extended our lead to 5-3. For the remaining minutes, the Wildcats were able to hold on and secure the win that everyone had worked hard for. Captain Katie Dole made big plays both offensively and defensively throughout the game, and Storm Sideleau who skated for the first time less than two weeks before this game played consistently tough defense in her first game ever. Thanks to all the fans who came out to support us!
